Our Mission & Philosophy

Jessie’s Classroom exists to support Australian teachers in sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with respect, confidence, and joy.

Indigenous Owned & Operated

Jessie's Classroom is the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Songkeeper Jessie Lloyd. All content within this site and the ATSI Songbook has been collated and researched by Jessie in collaboration with other Indigenous creatives and knowledge holders. All cultural knowledge in this site is public and created for ustralian classrooms.

Culturally Safe Classrooms

The purpose of Jessie's Classroom is to contribute to culturally safe classrooms. We understand it can be daunting for many teachers to teach Indigenous studies and limited knowledge and understanding of the subject can put both the students and the educators at risk. Jessie's Classoom is a nationally focused resource that aims to aviod any local issues such as cultural boundaries, language use or local permissions.

Music as the Messenger

Music is one of the most powerful tools for learning, a gentle and inclusive way for classrooms and communities to share culture in song. Each song is strategically composed and presented to encourage stronger relationshsips between schools and thier local Indigenous community. We encourgare the public use of all of the songs beyond the classroom and used at community events such as NAIDOC, Reconciliatoin week, Mabo Day, etc.
